Festival of Lights is a playful animated greeting card for Hallmark eCards that show all the fun traditions of Hanukkah!

When Hallmark approached me with the task to animate a Hanukkah eCard, I immediately jumped at the challenge of getting to know customs and traditions that were completely new to me.

And after much brainstorming I proposed two ideas that were both given the green light—this one you’re currently reading about, and Love, Warmth, and Peace!

But let’s talk about this eCard. The idea formed when I found out that Hanukkah is also called the Jewish Festival of Lights—so why not have lights (or flames) literally having a festival?

My role in this project is create the eCard from scratch, while working closely with a project manager at Hallmark eCards.

The project entailed a lot of research into Jewish culture to make the animation feel as authentic as possible. Here we had our little flame characters practicing Hanukkah traditions such as eating latke, playing with a dreidel, and exchanging gifts, while dancing around a menorrah to an instrumental inspired by the traditional song “Hava Nagila”!

The animation ends in a festive scene complete with confetti, dancing, fireworks, and a hand-lettered greeting!
